Blessed Pepper Lunch

Edric and I had so much fun watching our two older sons snarf down their meals at Pepper Lunch. After their Taekwondo open house performance, they were craving it so we took them over to SM Megamall. They were thrilled and energetically bounced right up to Pepper Lunch, picked out table # 64, and sat down while we ordered their favorite rice meals.

As Edric and I watched them chow down and make all kinds of comments about how gooood the food was, and how this is one of their favorite restaurants, we both smiled and looked at one another. Edric and I talked about how delightful it is to just sit and observe our children when they are enjoying themselves, and how wonderful it is when they are grateful and thankful.

I added, “If it is this much fun to watch our kids enjoy the blessings we give them, it really makes you think about how God must feel when he watches us enjoy his blessings.”

Many times over parenting has made me better understand the heart of God. When I first had kids, the love of God had new meaning for me.

Mothers and fathers make immeasurable sacrifices for their children. I remember what it was like to wake up several times at night to feed my babies and be insanely tired. And yet, I would do it, night after night, without expecting anything in return.

If we, being so imperfect, can magnanimously love our children without expectation, then how much more a God who is perfect, inexhaustible, incomparable? Who can truly understand the breadth, height, and depth of God’s love for us?

“Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!”(Matthew 7:9-11 NASB)
