La Union

During the second week of December, Edric’s family invited us to go to La Union with them. We stayed at Thunderbird Resort in Poro Point and took a side trip to Bacnotan for a delicious home cooked lunch. At the ancestral home of Edric’s grandmother we were served the best chicken, fish, pork and seaweed (I ate everything before being able to photograph the spread on the table). It was sooo yummy! Home cooking will always be my favorite kind of food. I am just that kind of gal. And my kids can live on fish. They are pretty simple like that.

It was an adventure for the kids to see my father-in-law’s farm. The boys grabbed sticks right away and hacked at the tall grass. They got to climb on to a skinny bamboo bridge that led to a fishing dock. That was a highlight for them.

Of course the beach at Poro Point was the best part. Elijah learned to body surf with Edric.

During our time in La Union, Elijah said, “I can’t imagine what heaven is going to be like when this place is already so beautiful!” It made me realize that Edric and I really have to take advantage of all the traveling we can do as homeschoolers and let our kids see how incredible God’s creation is.

And as always, the world is their classroom. They learn a whole lot by being exposed to what classroom-based kids read about in their school textbooks.

  1. As soon as you guys are ready for an educational trip to CamSur, just let us know! 🙂 We can visit the tribal areas where we work as well as the wakeboarding park and volcanic hot springs near our house…educational but fun too. 🙂
